ABOUT THE CENTER FOR TRIBAL TRANSPORTATION
Who We Are
The Center for Tribal Transportation (CTT) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering tribal communities across the United States through comprehensive transportation training, technical assistance, and capacity building. Operating from our headquarters in Fountain Hills, Arizona, we serve as a vital resource hub for tribal transportation professionals seeking to enhance their skills, advance their careers, and strengthen infrastructure in Indian Country.
Our Story
Founded with a commitment to advancing tribal sovereignty and self-determination in transportation infrastructure, CTT emerged from a clear need in tribal communities for specialized, culturally informed training and professional development. We recognized that tribal transportation professionals face unique challenges that require specialized expertise, from navigating federal regulations to managing complex infrastructure projects in remote locations.
Today, we stand as the leading provider of tribal-focused transportation training, combining hands-on technical instruction with strategic program development support. Through our partnership with the National Transportation in Indian Country Conference (NTICC), we've created a comprehensive ecosystem of learning, networking, and professional advancement opportunities.
What We Do
CTT provides a full spectrum of services designed to build lasting capacity in tribal transportation programs. Our work encompasses professional certification courses including ATSSA Flagger Training, CDL driver preparation, heavy equipment operation, and motor grader training. We deliver technical assistance tailored to each tribe's specific needs, whether that involves program development, grant writing support, or infrastructure planning guidance.
Beyond individual training, we facilitate knowledge sharing across Indian Country through webinars, resource libraries, and our annual NTICC conference, which brings together thousands of tribal transportation professionals, federal partners, and industry leaders. Our "Build a Better Mousetrap" initiative encourages innovation by showcasing successful tribal transportation solutions that other communities can adapt.

Our Approach
We believe that effective training goes beyond classroom instruction. Our programs combine hands-on experience with practical application, delivered by instructors who understand the unique context of tribal communities. We bring training directly to tribes whenever possible, reducing travel costs and increasing accessibility for participants.
Cultural respect and understanding form the foundation of everything we do. We recognize that each tribal community has distinct needs, priorities, and governance structures. Our technical assistance is collaborative rather than prescriptive, empowering tribes to develop solutions that align with their values and long-term goals.
Our Impact
Through our training programs, we've certified hundreds of tribal transportation professionals in critical safety and operational skills. Our technical assistance has helped tribes successfully navigate federal transportation programs, secure millions in funding, and develop sustainable infrastructure management systems. The relationships built through NTICC have fostered collaboration across tribal nations, creating a network of shared knowledge and mutual support that extends far beyond any single event.
Looking Forward
As tribal transportation needs continue to evolve, so does our commitment to innovation and excellence. We're expanding our course offerings, developing new technology transfer initiatives, and strengthening partnerships with federal agencies and tribal organizations. Our vision remains constant: through mutual respect and understanding, we will continue enhancing the quality of life in tribal communities by building capacity for tribes to administer and manage their transportation programs and systems with confidence and expertise.
